Steve Morgan – Greenpeace anti-oil exploration – Arctic

Steve Morgan onboard the Greenpeace campaign vessel MY Esperanza off the coast of Greenland.

Steve is currently documenting the environmental organisations campaign against exploration and drilling for oil in the ice strewnwaters of Baffin Bay in the Arctic. Greenpeace campaigners on Sunday 29/5/11 scaled an Arctic oil rig in an attempt to prevent deep water drilling off the coast of Greenland and occupied a small survival pod hanging precariously from the huge Leiv Eiriksson platform for four days before Danish Navy climbers took them down. They have been arrested by Greenlandic police.

Steve has documented many Greenpeace campaigns on all six continents over the last 20 years as well as work for other environmental NGOs and editorial media.

The Arctic environment and the people reliant on its fishing resources would be particularly vulnerable to any oil spill and a
spill similar to that which happened in the Gulf of Mexico last year would be catastrophic.
